Thursday, April 22: Sue leaves Dulles for Malawi

Tuesday, May 3: Kari leaves JFK for Malawi

Tuesday, May 3: Mary leaves SFO for NYC

Wednesday, May 4: Robbyn, Julie, Jane, Sue, Susan, Mary leave NYC for Malawi

Thursday, May 5: Connect with Kari in Jo’burg; Arrive in Lilongwe; Meet Emily (our guide); Kiboko Town Hotel

Friday, May 6: Bank, luggage, errands, dinner with Pilirani Semu-Banda & perhaps others

Saturday, May 7:  Attend breakfast book launch with Bhatupe Mhango; Afternoon rest; late afternoon or evening activity TBD

Sunday, May 8:  (Mother’s Day) Drive to Nkhotakota Pottery on beautiful Lake Malawi; Write, rest, swim/Stay 2 nights (about a 2 ½ hour drive)

Monday, May 9: Create pottery, shop, write, relax…

Tuesday, May 10:  Breakfast at Nkhotakota; Travel to Tukombo Village (about a 1 ½ hour drive); accommodations at the cabin of Mbumba Banda on beautiful Lake Malawi

Wednesday, May 11 - 13: Tour KUDO projects/traditional dancers, tour village, write with girls at Tukombo Girl’s School, Elder ceremony/write

Saturday, May 14: Travel day to Livingstonia; accommodations at Stone House (about a 5 hour drive)

Sunday, May 15: Traditional church service in Livingstonia - English service 8:30 am; rest, write and possibly sightsee

Monday, May 16: Amayi Limodzi Writing Circle

Tuesday, May 17: Amayi Limodzi Writing Circle

Wednesday, May 18: Amayi Limodzi Transformative Arts Circle/Quilt squares

Thursday, May 19: Leave Livingstonia for Nkhata Bay; stop in Ekwendeni (2 hours from Livingstonia) for lunch (maybe storytelling); accommodations at Mayoka Village (about a 4 ½ hour drive)

Friday, May 20:  Travel to Liwonde National Park for evening safari; accommodations at Bushman’s Baobob’s (about a 4 hour drive)

Saturday, May 21:  Morning safari/write

Sunday, May 22: Return to Lilongwe; accommodations to be determined

Monday, May 23:  Pack and closure/write

Tuesday, May 24: Saying good-bye to our extraordinary group of North American women!

Wednesday, May 25: Mary and Sue meet with Bertha of Voices of Women 

Thursday, May 26: Mary and Sue travel to Fisherman's Rest

Friday, May 27 - 31: The first ever Amherst Writers and Artists Facilitator Training in Africa!!

Wednesday, June 1: Sue and Mary meet with staff of Naotcha Orphanage of Genesis International


Thursday, June 2 - 4: Back to Lilongwe for more meetings TBA, rest and preparation to return to the US

Sunday, June 5: Sue and Mary leave Lilongwe

Monday, June 6: Sue and Mary Arrive Dulles Airport

Tuesday, June 7: Sue and Mary meet with Caroline Krueger of Genesis International and Mary returns to California

Wednesday, June 8: Begin planning for Malawi 2012!! Oh and sleep and rest...
